Year 32 is an odd journey for Ms. Doodles. Doodles and pjs was born out of yearning. A yearning for creative expression.
A few years ago, this writer penned a semi-successful geeky niche site during the early blogging era. She, along with a handful of bloggers, built an online presence and community for this interest. Yet, at the height of the site’s visibility, burning out and life happened. From daily updates, the frequency of posts dropped to weekly. Then, monthly. Until… The inevitable occurred. I had to say goodbye.
At that time, Ms. Doodles’ online presence was courted by a couple of recruiters for online magazine start-ups (a couple of them ballooned to a formidable force in this niche community). Unfortunately, I did not realize the lost opportunity until it was gone.
While the site’s semi-success was a wonderful happenstance, what I truly missed is the joy of writing. Of creating. Of evolving. The readers and fellow bloggers created a community and camaraderie. Although this site may not reach the success of the previous one, it is okay.
The main reason for this site is for a creative outlet. The initial goal was to write fiction. Doodling, as in writing. In my pajamas. Yet my love for kitchen experiments and personal finance emerge instead. And lately, my passion for financial independence bloomed into a significant lifestyle change. Although Ms. Doodles wears her pajamas whilst typing away on her computer, the PJs part of this site’s name did not seem to fit anymore. Hence the commencement of a fresh moniker. Doodles and Pjs has morphed into Doodles and Cents.
Why Cents? Two reasons. 1) Because of the obvious financial affiliation and 2) because it’s a callback (and really bad pun) to my mother’s business name.
So there. Doodles and Cents says hello once again.
